Day 4 – Chivenor to Pembrey – 268 Miles.

Another fine breakfast in the mess set us up for the day. The Royal Marines then arranged for us to have our photo taken and for it to be published in the local press – it should help with our fund-raising!

I have the sad news to report our first casualty this morning – a blackbird decided to head-butt the fairing of my Suzuki. Needless to say, the Suzuki won!

Our route this morning took us along the north coast of Devon, through Woolacombe, Ilfracombe and Combe Martin. After an awesome switch-back route we appeared at the idyllic spot of Lynmouth – it seemed silly not to stop for an ice cream! We continued east on the A38 past Minehead, another great bit of road.

After a look at the map, we decided to take a quick blast up the M5 and M4 into Wales, and taking the coast road past RAF St Athan – or is the MoD St Athan now? Another Ice Cream stop was taken at Ogmore-by-Sea for a great view of Pawthcawl and of the Devon and Somerset coast we'd ridden this morning. Another nip up the M4 took us to Swansea and the natural beauty of the Gower peninsular, and Worm's Head.

We'd arranged accommodation at RAF Pembrey Sands – the admin site for the nearby bombing range. It is a well-appointed facility that has allowed us to wash some of our clothes ready for the rest of the trip.

Tomorrow will see us end up near Snowdon – the weather report has forecast rain, so we've got our waterproof gear ready!
